Metal balance bikes

Irrespective of whether you're looking for a sporty vehicle for your little lover of dynamics and speed, or a more classic model (for example, in the lovely retro style), a metal balance bike will be a great choice for your youngster. The first companion on bike adventures opens up new development opportunities for your child: it teaches balance and motor coordination, and allows your littlie to develop a sense of space. A good metal balance bike should be as well suited to your child's capabilities and needs as possible, as they're just starting to learn a new skill. It's good for the frame to be made of lightweight material, e.g. magnesium alloy. Its design should make it easier for beginner cyclists to use: the lower the frame, the quicker they can jump on and take off! And when it's time to stop, a hand brake will come in handy – some balance bike models have these.

Which metal balance bike should you choose?
One of the most important moments in all kids' lives is getting their own bike! You remember our first riding attempts and adventures into adulthood. To make these memories full of pleasant emotions and joy from success, it's good to get your little one used to a bike fairly early on. If your child is at least two years old, they'll love learning to ride on a metal balance bike.
The right design: a good frame
A metal frame made of lightweight alloys (such as magnesium alloy) guarantees durability and convenience, but for the bike to meet the needs of junior cyclists, it should also have several other features. When choosing a bike, note the frame profile and structure: the best will be a frame without any protruding elements that's relatively low to make getting on and off easier. The optimal frame height means that the bike can be used even by younger children (aged approximately two years, at least 80 cm tall), and the rounded edges will protect your little one against injuries.
Safety solutions
Common sense often gets forgotten during crazy bike rides. In such situations, the parents and bike manufacturers become the ones that ensure that the child doesn't get hurt. After all, your littlie's safety largely depends on well-designed solutions. A metal balance bike should be built in accordance with safety standards. Also check to make sure that the model you're choosing features a handlebar lock function. This makes turning safer. Thanks to this mechanism, your little cyclist can have control when changing direction!
Other accessories that come in handy on walks are a bell and handbrake (some models come with one included). Another interesting solution is solid wheels to avoid shoelaces getting caught, or a comfortable footrest (check out the SPACE bike) so that little feet don't get tired during longer rides, e.g. down a hill.
Wheels: air-filled or foam?
When choosing a metal balance bike, you'll certainly notice the different types of wheels used in different models. Which ones should you choose? There's no one correct answer, because each solution has its benefits.
Air-filled wheels ensure better shock absorption and smooth riding on difficult terrain. A low curb, pine cone or rock? Your little cyclist will likely not feel a thing. However, sharp edges can puncture a tyre.
Such risks don't apply to wheels made of puncture-resistant foam. They're durable and much lighter than wheels with a tyre and inner tube. You don't need to pump them up when your littlie wants to use the bike. They're ideal for even surfaces, e.g. on park pavements.
