Furniture for a baby girl’s room

When decorating the room for the incoming baby girl, are we doomed to the ubiquitous pink, flowers and hearts? No! Current trends do not even consider the division into girls' and boys' furniture. The difference in arrangement lies in the details - curtains, wallpaper, pillows, wall colors. It is the accessories that give the right character to the baby's room.

What furniture is necessary in a baby girl's room?

Before we get into the accessories, let's talk about the essentials: what furniture is essential for a baby? Let's start with the cot. The baby sleeps most of the day, so its bedding must be comfortable and spacious. The baby needs to be changed frequently, so we should be prepared for that as well. This time it is all about the comfort of the parent, which will be provided by the changing table. The comfort of the caretaker, mainly the mom, will also be ensured by the armchair, in which our little one can be comfortably fed. Piles of clothes also have to be placed somewhere - so without a dresser or a closet - no can do.

What furniture for an older girl's room?

Designing a room for a baby, it is worth bearing in mind the older kid, which your little one will become sooner than you think. It's worth finding a place for a rack with low, easily accessible shelves and a chest for countless toys, such as those from the RACOON collection, with a friendly raccoon that will appeal to both girls and boys. Before you know it, your little one will be drawing and painting, and you'll need a little table and chair to do that too.

The three-zone principle

When placing children's furniture, we should follow the rule of three zones: sleep, play and study. Draw invisible lines that will separate these spaces, so that the child feels that while being in the sleep zone, he/she should sleep, and while being at the table, draw and paint. Proper arrangement of furniture organizes the baby’s small world and forms good habits that affect the ability to focus in the future, for example at school. Thanks to this, from the earliest age, a child knows how to use a bed and a desk.

Children’s furniture - what to look for?

Once we know what to look for, it's time to answer the question: what should we focus on when choosing cots, changing tables or dressers? Are there any special rules that should be followed to create a friendly space for the baby? Basically, you should pay attention to three main aspects: first - safety, second - functionality, and third - esthetics (let's not forget). Do they differ according to gender? No - the whole process of choosing furniture for girls and boys looks the same.

Safety

Safety is key. It is easy to take care of it when it comes to furniture. You should opt for solid and strong constructions, i.e. the ones that will not wobble at the slightest nudge or when your little one will come up with a bright idea to climb it. It is also a necessity that taller furniture is firmly attached to the wall.

But safe furniture also means that it is made of appropriate materials. Wooden structures painted with tested paints or non-toxic water-based paints are preferred. When looking at furniture, check for splinters and glass elements. Ideally, they should have rounded edges - you'll appreciate it when your toddler starts getting up to speed.

Functionality

Functional furniture is furniture that fulfills its role, gives a sense of comfort and does not need to be replaced too quickly. The construction of furniture is important - so is its size, spaciousness, solidity, practicality as well as your housing conditions. A beautiful, spacious closet with many drawers and shelves may turn out to be completely non-functional if it takes up half of the child's room.

Always buy furniture with the future in mind. Buying furniture when your little one is mainly lying in the cot  is difficult because it is hard to think about the height of shelves, the size of chairs and a table. Believe it though - it is worth using your imagination so that the furniture you bought will grow with your child and fulfill its role not only now, but also in a year, in two or three years. It is simply worth it.

Esthetics

Esthetics is, of course, a matter of taste, but it is worth ensuring that the room supports the baby's well being . Among the furniture available on the market you can choose both the ones in vivid colors but also in soft, universal ones that will work in the room of a toddler, a preschooler and then even a student. Transformation of such a room for a slightly older child can be done by replacing a few details, such as curtains, pillows or pictures on the walls. Replacing toys also makes a big difference, and furniture can often be refreshed with a small amount of money and work, for example, by replacing knobs or sticking special stickers.

Furniture for changing a baby

Adequate baby changing furniture is still not the standard for furnishing a child’s room. This is a serious mistake. Changing tables mean more comfort for parents and safety for the baby. On the market we can find several variants of baby changing tables - free-standing,             overlays that you can fit on dressers or beds and those in a form of shelves.

A free-standing changing table has the advantage over other changing tables because it contains cabinets and shelves for accessories that you must have on hand while changing your baby. This way you will not be separated from your baby, because diapers, creams, wipes and other necessary items will be right at your fingertips. Overlays are even more practical because they save a lot of space. They are placed on the furniture and when they are no longer needed, they can be easily removed. An equally good solution are dressers with an integrated changing unit, which have the advantage that all items are hidden in their drawers, thanks to which it is easier to keep things in order.

In the evening, in the children's room, mum holds a little child while sitting in an armchair. Next to them there is a playpen and a Kinderkraft Racoon toy chest.

Furniture in a set or separately?

On the market you can find both complete sets of furniture, thanks to which your child’s room will remain esthetically coherent, as well as single pieces of furniture that can be freely combined together. Is any option better? It all depends on your preferences.

A functional and convenient option are modular furniture, which can be freely expanded according to changing needs. This is a cheap, versatile and quick to assemble solution which assures you that everything will fit together and be aesthetically pleasing.

But sometimes it happens that we get a cot after a friend's son because he no longer needs it, and we manage to hunt for a beautiful dresser at a discount. Then it is better to choose the rest of the furniture yourself, so that everything will be esthetically pleasing and will fulfill the most important functions. This option gives more freedom - we can find a vintage closet for a penny, which we will restore ourselves, or choose a perfect toy chest, which does not occur in any set. Then the only limitation is the size of the room, the size of our wallet, our sense of esthetics and - in the end - imagination.

Choosing furniture for a newborn is an important moment. Closets, dressers, changing tables chosen at the birth of a newborn will stay in the room much longer than you think. That is why it is good to think ahead and choose furniture which will satisfy you both at the time of choosing it and when your little one will grow up.
